Bob's Believe It or Not?
Can you believe sugar-free cookies are often loaded with hydrogenated oils (trans fats that are really unhealthy)? The first ingredient listed on many sugar free cookies is vegetable shortening, which is a trans fat.

It doesn’t seem like rocket science, but there was actually a study done recently that showed a direct correlation between the prevalence of overweight and obesity among sixth and seventh graders and the amount of TV viewing and soda drinking. (The study was published in the September issue of Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine.)

Wean your kids off soda by offering one of the new flavored waters. Quality varies, so just be sure the water you buy isn’t loaded with chemicals and sugar.

Another smart tactic: Get your kids moving by suggesting something fun—throwing a Frisbee or ball, riding a bike, shooting some hoops, taking a walk or hike. Join them, and show them how much fun it can be. Click here for the article on raising active children in this section of my web site.
