A lot of restaurants now serve olive oil instead of butter with bread. Thats smart in the sense that olive oil is heart healthy and butter is not.
But a new study found that dipping into the olive oil can be more fattening than spreading on butter: Because bread soaks up oil like a sponge, the dippers consumption of olive oil was about 26 percent greater than the spreaders consumption of butter.
So be careful when you opt for olive oil; too much of a good thing may not be too good after all.
